New Backlog on Violence in Gaming

Posted in: digital humanities

I’ve got a new piece out this week for Grayson Morley’s Backlog newsletter, a semi-regular publication about the video games you haven’t gotten to play yet. In it, I discuss the power of simple red pixels to stir more emotion than photorealistic violence ever could. Games discussed include Arco, Drova: Forsaken Kin, and (in passing) Mortal Kombat. Scott McCloud makes an appearance. It’s always a treat to write about my other lifelong hobby, and I’m grateful to Grayson for giving me the space to do so. Check out “On red pixels: violence and verisimilitude” over on Backlog.
